Pet Health & Wellness Care Includes Nutrition, Vaccines & Parasite Prevention
The professionals of Maywood Veterinary Clinic strive to prevent illness whenever possible, promoting a life of health and vigor. Our comprehensive pet wellness programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient, at every stage of life.
At the first visit, a wellness program is designed specifically for your pet and includes the following:
- Comprehensive physical exam
- Internal parasite testing
- Heartworm and flea control
- Vaccination program
- Spay and neuter package
- Specialized blood tests
Regular visits should be scheduled once or twice annually, depending upon the species, needs, health, and lifestyle of your pet. The time and effort invested in wellness care has many benefits, rewarding you with a healthy, happy companion for years to come.
The Wellness Exam
Our veterinarians give your pet a comprehensive physical at every wellness visit, examining the patient from head to tail. This is an excellent time to discuss any questions you may have, concerns about your pet, or changes that have occurred since the last visit.
At the beginning of the exam, your pet's weight is recorded. Our veterinarian evaluates the patient's coat, skin, nose and throat, and listens to the lungs and heart rate. Lymph nodes, eyes, ears, mouth, gums, and teeth are also examined. We assess your pet's urogential tract and nervous system, feel the abdomen for any abnormalities, and score your animal's body condition.
Special Needs
Preventive care and diagnostic testing will vary, depending upon the type of pet you have and the animal's stage of life. We invite you to learn more about the wellness care of the following:
- Exotics including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and pocket pets
- Puppy and kitten care from birth through the first year
- Adult dog and cat care
- Senior pets
Pet dental care is an essential piece of the wellness package, making a great impact in the overall health and longevity of many companion animals. Nutritional counseling is offered at every wellness visit, especially for those pets that face a health or weight challenge.
Behavior issues can be a serious problem for some pet owners. At the wellness visit, discuss any behavioral concerns with the veterinarian. We may simply counsel you, offer training resources, or we may recommend a trainer or behaviorist based upon your specific needs.
We fully believe that the regular wellness visit with a complete exam is a great way to stop problems before they start!
